Denmark : PhD fellowship in the area of Metabolic Engineering of secondary metabolite production in actinomycetes

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join our newly established and highly international research center – The Novo Nordisk Foundation for Biosustainability, the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), and become part of the New Bioactive Compounds / Metabolic Engineering of Natural Products section.

Responsibilities and tasks
The successful candidate will be working on projects concerning metabolic engineering of actinomycete antibiotics producers. The work will include topics on laboratory automation, development, implementation and application of high throughput metabolic engineering tools for actinomycetes, and the identification and characterization of novel secondary metabolite biosynthesis pathways.

Qualifications
Master’s Degree in relevant field.

We are looking for highly motivated individuals with M.Sc. degrees in Microbiology or related discipline. Candidates with some knowledge actinomycete biology and genetic engineering will be preferred, but these qualifications are not formal requirements.

Approval and Enrolment
The scholarships for the PhD degree are subject to academic approval, and the candidates will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes of DTU. For information about the general requirements for enrolment and the general planning of the scholarship studies, please see the DTU PhD Guide.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union. The period of employment is 3 years. Place of work is The Novo Nordisk Foundation for Biosustainability in Hørsholm.
